The Forest is a public structure in a forest blending and growing with nature instead of erasing it.
It is funded by the Sai Yuen private donation.
Site: Sai Yuen, Cheung Chau Island, Hong Kong
Architecture requires to be reconsidered and reinvented, given the current environmental crisis. In search of an alternative paradigm in design, we are looking at the public space of Hong Kong, a concrete jungle where the urgency for natural environment preservation is often at odds with the need to house the population. In this highly dense, strictly regulated, and often individualistic city, the aim is to rethink the balance between the built and the natural environment, find new ways of collective living among human and non-human beings, and reconsider architecture timeframes, materiality and construction circularity.
